What Waist Donates to Therapy for Black Girls
We recently donated thousands to Therapy for Black Girls, an organization created by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford to help remove the stigma surrounding mental health issues of Black Women and provide resources for those that want to receive access to therapy!
Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a Licensed Psychologist, Speaker, Author, and Media personality in Atlanta, Georgia, and is the founder & CEO of Therapy for Black Girls.Therapy for Black Girls started as a blog after Dr. Joy Harden Bradford was inspired from watching Black Girls Rock on BET. In 2017, the weekly podcast, Therapy for Black Girls, was established. The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast focuses on "...all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.” Dr. Joy Harden Bradford uses pop culture elements to help illustrate psychological concepts to make the knowledge more relatable to Black Women.
A lot of times when we talk about mental illness or mental health, I think there’s a lot missing from the conversation. I don’t think we always do a great job focusing on mental wellness and realizing that we all have mental health we have to take care of. It doesn’t always have to be about mental illness.” - Dr. Joy Harden Bradford
Black women have faced and are currently facing an immense mental health crisis. Women are twice as likely to develop symptoms of depression than men. With our current racial climate, it is important that Black Women have access to these types of services. Therapy for Black Girls is fully dedicated on creating a safe place for Black Womento find mental wellness.
At What Waist, we strive to create a supportive and uplifting community that encourages and celebrates women to love and become the best version of themselves and reach their fitness goals. We understand that fitness is only part of the wellness journey, and that self-love and self-validation starts inward and has influence on how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us.
Making your mental health a priority is something we stand behind 100 percent, therefore we support Therapy for Black Girls, and thank Dr. Joy Harden Bradford for all she is doing for the community.
