What Waist Completes Their $100,000 Pledge

In June of 2020, we made a pledge to donate $100,000 before the end of the year to causes that support the fight against injustice and systematic racism. It is important to us as a company to give back to the community that has supported our growth as a business over the years.

As a black owned company that has experienced the inhumanity of systematic racism, we stand against it and we are committed to make a change. The death of George Floyd represented so many things that are very wrong with our country. During times like that, we are reminded that we have no one to turn to but ourselves to start the revolution for a positive future.

Our first donation was made to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. The MFF pays criminal bonds for individuals that are unable to do so. They seek to end discriminatory, intimidating and oppressive money bail and we support their efforts in paying the bonds of the protestors who stood up to express their views after the death of George Floyd.

What Waist supports initiatives that are involved in ending voter suppression efforts like voter id and felony disenfranchisement.  So, we made a donation to the Black Voters Matter Fund. Their involvement with communities and organizations that support civic engagement on a political level aligns with our beliefs as a company. Together we can make a change, but change starts with people.

We wanted to support black mothers and their infants as part of our pledge as well. We understand the impact of racism on the health and development of infants of color, so we have donated to the Black Women for Wellness fund that advocates and directly addresses the impact of racism on the health of young infants.

To make a change going forward, we need to focus on the future. That is why we made a considerable donation to Clark Atlanta University to help pay for student tuition and education costs. This historically black university excels in using education as a tool to remodel social systems and civic protocols to create a more just, equitable society. We are proud to help support students in the Atlanta community who are motivated to elevate their education.

We want to thank you for supporting our brand and giving us the opportunity to support these exceptional causes to help make a positive change in our community. We support people who are committed to positive change and active progression towards a better future, these donations were made on behalf of anyone who supports black business and everyone who supports What Waist.
